How to Run an Insurance Job as a Roofer (Part 1) The Initial Job Site Visits
The process and concepts we follow for our insurance roofing jobs have won us awards and features in huge publications like Good Morning America and Fortunes Times, so when we started seeing and getting questions from roofers (and roofing customers!) about how to run an insurance claim on a roof? We knew we had to share. So in part 1 of our process, Ami is breaking down the initial job site visits for a roofing insurance job.

When we heard Patricia’s story we (And GAF who paid for the shingles!) couldn’t stand by and do nothing. Every other roofing company provided her a quote, Ami provided her a solution. Here’s the story of how she got a roof for a cake (No it didn’t have any fancy ingredients, but it sure was yummy!) Huge shout out to GAF for their incredible generosity in partnering with us to save this family’s...

How to Assess Your Own Roof: New Homeowner’s Edition
Highly engaging and useful video.
Thanks for watching!
You didn't talk about Turbine roof vents. My roof has no soffits for a ridge vent
I don't like turbines too much but my superintendent does. They used to be made better than they are today - nowadays after about 4 years they start rattling and clunking. I prefer a power vent if there isn't enough ridge for ridge vent.
4. Beer cans don’t fall out of the truck when they open the door. 5. They don’t have blue lips from smoking butts found in the portapotty
HA HA For sure! Beer bottle caps too.
You missed the part where there’s Hispanic workers too 😎
For sure because some of the very best workers often are!
Three a bunch of Mexican guys don’t jump out of the back
gracias. Big help!
Good luck out there!
cutie pie
Everyone is a roof expert nowadays it’s crazy
Especially in Texas. No licensing required. Everyone’s an expert.
True , In NC the same thing , Also new roofing companys all over
Good info - do you know if we can install two power vents across from each other on a hip roof or should be put them on the same side. Side by side they would be less then 6" apart.
You could do either one of you need two - but that’s a lot of power vent. A regular power vent covers 2400-2800 SF of attic floor space. You can over ventilate and it will suck AC out of your living space if it can find a way.
When you order your architectural shingle you can order caps with it that will have the same warranty
Yes. I wish more roofers would! But they take the cheap road.
Looks like you’re basic $15 an hour roofing crew and nobody that takes pride in their work
This is a reaction video not me doing the work 🤣. Not sure who you’re insulting!
Simple, straight to the point, and informative. Great video!
Thanks for watching and for the words of encouragement. I appreciate it!
Load of bull, you tack both sides and lay another mat of shingles over them with just tar, it's a solid sheet that goes across the entire roof tip. Maybe do some roofing before posting
😖 oh my I hope you're trolling lol
Outstanding job! I get to replace 3 of them this summer. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge.
It's not as hard as it looks! Thanks for watching and supporting!
What if we have clay tile roof?
That’s adorable
She’s pretty adored
She's so amazing!
So helpful! 👍
Thanks for watching!!!
Hi there! We have a room above our garage that has tall vaulted ceilings. No attic space above but it gets super hot! What would you recommend to help ventilate? It would be appropriate for a ridge vent, but again no attic space. Thank you!
The best thing I've found is a radiant barrier underlayment (one brand is Polarium). We've used this on about 5 houses and it has helped significantly. But last summer one of these houses we did got struck by lightening, and it traveled all over the entire roof. I think it was conducted by the drip edge and not the underlayment, but I'm not 100% sure.
If you only put slant vents up top,.how would you get enough air in to push the air sitting st the bottom of the roof if you don't have opportunity to add soffit vents ?
They make shingle over intake vents - O'Hagin makes a great one. You can retrofit these to a shingle roof.
The best shingles last 10 years in FL if you are lucky. The warranties are a joke. I have an exposed fastener galvalume roof that is going on 30 years old. Once a year i check for any look for any loose fasteners. I have had to replace two fasteners in 30 years. It has already oulasted three shingle roofs. Its only a few thousand dollars more to go metal in most cases. Just do it.
You've had fasteners with gaskets on them that have lasted 30 years without dry rot? That's impressive. You say the warranties are a joke, but I've had GAF replace about 5 roofs over the years under their warranty program, so I've definitely found them not to be a joke. I agree, metal is great. But it isn't perfect!
Well. Had a mask on. Probably co2 and heat. Or he’s drunk
I so don't miss those stupid masks. That's a really good point.
Looks like he was getting dizzy. Maybe low or high blood pressure.
That's what I think too.
Most likely it was because of the mask... I almost quite my job during covid.. the masks caused more harm then good. Never going to trust the government again
Ladder should be at least 3'-4' above gutter line ! Also, that looked like a little giant ladder not an actual extension ladder.
Yes, good catch! OSHA requires 3' above. Although that's awful to swing your leg around and I often wonder what that logic is. He does have a little giant - a lot of adjusters use them. We do too from time to time. They come in handy.
Hello. Currently I have small ridgevents and 4 passive box vents close to the ridge vents to account for small ridge vents. Do you think that is allowed.
In my experience, those vents will work against each other and you will be only circulating air between those two types of vents and not pulling properly from the soffit vents. You might ask a knowledgeable roofer to take a look at it, especially if you think your attic is hotter than it should be.
You should remove the booger
My mother agrees with you!
I loathe insurance companies (and most politicians).
Amen I hear you. I was just telling our foreign exchange student from Spain this morning that I could live without politics.
Shingles The Most Expensive From GAF Is Only 10 Years Warranty And I Donot Know Why You Say 50 ??? Metal Is Better And More Easy To Install And Faster. Aluminum Metal Has 5 Years More Warranty Than Any Shingle In The World. Amén.
I think you are looking at their standard material warranty where the smart choice period is only 10 years. If you get a Silver or Golden Pledge warranty, it goes up to 50. Look at this link www.gaf.com/en-us/resources/warranties/residential and open up the Timberline part and you will see what I mean. Metal can go on easy, but if you have a contractor who doesn't know what they are doing and don't flash it all in correctly and do the seams right, you have a very expensive big mess in a hurry that is almost impossible to fix.
Can’t hail hits also open up a blister?
Sure they could prematurely pop it if it hasn't popped yet.
Thanks for the tips roofer chicks😂
Thank you for watching! 🎉
i wondered why my DC shoes did me well when i did roofing...
Skating shoes are great. I like Converse.
BS. Pushing shingles equals more roofing business.
These are published, factual manufacture warranties and specs. If you do your research you will find it’s not BS at all. Good luck to you!

I’m sorry I don’t understand even after translating. It translated as “are you talking far?”
I just wanted to say thank you. I’m currently on chemotherapy and my husband is deployed a lot and we just bought a house that was built in the 1930s . so thank you for making videos like these because we can’t afford to actually hire someone to do it.
I'm so glad to be of service! Where are you located?

Your info is great.
Thank you for watching and for the kind words of affirmation!
In Jacksonville, NC asphalt shingles only last 15 may be 20 years. Hurricanes tear beat the s from roofs.
Yes, the 50 years is a manufacturer warranty for defects. It does not cover acts of God, like hurricanes. Here in Texas we have a lot of hail, but it kind of depends on where you live if you get it all the time or not. Where my house sits, I never get it. But 15 miles west of me, they get hail all the time. So my house has a real shot at longevity. Even metal is limited to 140 mph winds - so I am guessing the hurricanes gets some of the metal roofs too.
Good job ladies all chimney flashing should be replaced and not reused and also those hideous chimney kits that roofers use is sickening but love to see skilled workers doing the right thing.
Thanks for your kind words of affirmation! We pride ourselves on our crickets and custom flashings. It feels like a lot of folks don't understand the value of that, but I can see you do and it makes my heart happy!
Did she say shingles last 50 years?!? 😂 lost me there. Bye
I didn't write the manufacturer warranty - I am just the messenger telling you what the manufacturer warranty is. You can read it yourself at www.gaf.com/en-us/resources/warranties/residential. Click on Timberline HDZ and expand that section, then look at Smart Choice Protection Period.
They don't even send out a inspector. They just look at satellite veiws of the roof. Check the block schit good ole boy system around here. Kick backs to local.gov fees. They all are in cahoots for job security and Benjamin's around here Have never heard of a roofing job being denied around here. Insurance companies just pad the pro rate off your new roof. And the roofers make out bill8ng to get that difference.
, may I take you out ? I’m 23 and have 79k in my bank account right now and own my own company that nets 359k on average every year for the past 3 years . I don’t mind if you are older but I can help take care of you and I’d give you the world
Shouldn’t there be an issue resolving clause for the inspection? And ignorance of the adjuster
I'm not sure what you mean, but the insurance company will have to pay for damaging the roof. And yes, obviously the adjuster didn't think it was going to be that brittle and tear. Adjusters are not contractors.
I agree with you, but your presentation is bad if you’re looking for validation from the field.
What do you mean by my presentation is bad? The video? Or the guy who posted this? Or that I reposted it?
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!!!
Which states?
We’re in Texas but most of these things apply in most states.
@@rooferchicks oh interesting!
The cake is a lie. Saw two trucks of theirs today and it was both dudes driving.
We are about 50% male and 50% female. It would be illegal to only hire women, and stupid. But women represent .5% of all roofing labor in the US so we’re kicking ass. Thanks for the opportunity to explain. If you’re buying cake 🎂 I prefer cream cheese frosting.
Yeah you match and install the crappiest stuff to make max profit. NO THANKS! The insurance company pays for installation by W2 workers and you getbtge work done with illegal workers who often are not insured and you pay them much less than you would a w2 employee. Not my problem! Estumate based onfair pricing and do your mfing assessment as you should if you want a job. Else go fish! Thesemroofers always try to maximize profit by installing crappiest material with the cheapest crew of ilegal workers who arent insured or trained. They just have nailing experince but no actual certifications by the shingle manufacturer. Most literally speak zero English. So forget the sob stories from these roofers. The new 2024 law says if your subcontractor makes mostof their income from you you must pay them on a 1099.
I can appreciate your rant, but you obviously know very little (or nothing) about my company or what we do.
